Joe Biden Is President — What’s Next For This Alt Account?

The last four years have been one of the rockiest in recent American history. @AltHomelandSec was created for a few reasons: to push against disinformation put out by agencies under the umbrella of DHS, to spread truth and maybe ruffle a couple feathers, but also as a personal outlet in what was certain to be uncertain times.

The times are still uncertain. We are seeing national security issues come to the forefront that have been lying in wait, waiting for the right atmosphere to make themselves seen. That atmosphere was created on January 20th, 2017. The continued rise of white supremacy and political extremism is now one of our biggest national security issues, whether we like to admit it or not. Millions are still being infected by a virus that has killed 400,000+ Americans in a year with no end in sight. This is not the end.

This means it is also not the end for me.

I want to continue to spread information about the troubles our country is facing, even in an administration I will likely agree with on many more issues. We’ll certainly still have our disagreements, and I’ll voice them, but I think continuing the positive and negative reactions to issues is good for me, good for my followers, and good for democracy.

I do want to include that one of the bonuses of creating this account is that it has made me really, really, really good at my personal job. I was already good, but this put me at a different level than I previously was. The knowledge I’ve gained from everyone and the ability to better utilize my analytical skills has improved the scope of my work tremendously. Although a bit selfish, I can’t let that part go, especially as my work affects a lot of you who are reading this. You may not know it, but you’ve seen my work in the media quite a few times over the past 4 years, including as recently as the January 6th insurrection. And really, I have to thank you all for that.

As for #AltGov, I don’t know that answer. I still have strong disagreements on several ethical issues that have arisen and since nothing has changed, if not gotten worse, that boat has probably sailed. Plus people don’t like it when you call them out, so bridges have been burned in most cases. The few accounts close to me are in agreement, so most of us have broken ties. I still have a couple ideas I’m working through, but I’ve been too busy to sit down and really spend the time they need and deserve.

I do want to thank everyone who is disappearing. Thank you for the camaraderie and friendship, especially when the government tried to come after us early accounts and @Alt_USCIS took the proverbial bullet for us. I don’t know who most of you are, but I hope someday we’ll be able to share our stories when things are more stable.

Until then, I’ll see you on Twitter.
